Disseminating artwork online

It is very important for the artwork to be disseminated, because otherwise it may not be seen. Before the World Wide Web was invented the images were put into albums and looked just on special occasions where memory is being celebrated. After the invention of internet and digital photography everything has changed. Printed images and albums were replaced with digital ones. "A much more characteristic way of presenting pictures currently is circulating them over the Internet."(Richter, R, & Schadler, 2009, 170p.) It is so much easier and quicker just to upload image on the internet and share it.

Nowadays when the Internet is widely used artwork can be shared and viewed anywhere, anytime in the world. This kind of dissemination is not only used to share snapshots, but it's being used by the artists as well. Nearly every artists have their own website or page, where they share their artwork. It has many benefits such as it is quick and easy to upload, it can be sent anywhere, mostly artists can see how many people engaged with their work, how many views shares and so on. Such websites as Flickr, Facebook allows people to disseminate their work easily and for free. Unfortunately, there is a downside to a websites like that. Due to the fact that everyone can do it, the work can be lost in a million other work and the audience is not always right.

Some examples of how artwork can be disseminated online:

Flickr.com

In Flickr photographs can be shared by anyone, it be private just for friends and family, or anyone accessing the website. Images can also be  embedded and used in other websites.  It is free and easy to use it, however on average about 5000 pictures are uploaded every minute to this platform. So it is a vert large community for sharing images and other artwork.

Facebook.com

Facebook is a social media network, which allows people from all over the world to connect, talk, share. Everyone can have Facebook account, upload images or even create a Facebook page just for their work. It is an easy way to share your work with friends and family or even wider audience. to create a page is very easy and it is free too. When the work is uploaded on Facebook page it can be tracked. There is shown how many people viewed image, how many people liked and so on.

Deviantart.com

"In 2008, Deviantart was visited by 32 million users, and it was listed among the top ten visited websites in the category of arts." (Almila Akdag Salah, 2010, 16p.) The work here can not only be viewed, but sold as well. Compared with the websites such as Facebook, this one is just for artwork, so people at this website are all interested in arts.

Youtube.com

Videos can be shared on Youtube. It is one of the most popular video sharing websites. Any individual can upload a video and share it any where they want.

There are many more ways how to share artwork online, blogs (Blogger.com, Tumblr.com), individual websites (can be created using Wix.com, WordPress.com), other social media websites (Pinterest.com, Instagram, Google+).

To cap it all, online dissemination is important in these days. Any art work can be uploaded on the internet. There are many social media websites, the ones that I mentioned and many more, that allows   anyone to put their artwork online.
