Artists that used heart rate to create art

Danielle Gotell 'Impulse'

Danielle Gotell created an art installation called 'Impulse' in Canada, where it invites people walking by to grab onto a hand-helt heart rate monitor that is hooked up to electric lights, flashing to the beat of their hearts. People can see how the lights are changing through a peepholes in the wall.  The work combines four peoples heart rates into one, they are kept private and only the participants can see the result.

Below I included the video of how it works.

In my opinion this work is interesting as it lets people to interact with it. It makes something that is not visible to naked eye visible. It uses peoples bodies to create an art piece.

'Heart Bot'

'Heart Bot' was created by creative agency Sid Lee New York. Intel and SMS Audio collaborated with Sid Lee to create an art installation that merged the physical and the physical. They created a robot that collects peoples heart rate data and converts into drawing. The Heart Bot consists of pedestal fitted with a heart rate sensor and mechanical arm that move around the wall surface. Person simply needs to put his hand on pedestal for about 30 seconds, where their heart rate is tracked, then robotic arm starts drawing at real time. Due to the fact that Heart Bot collects heart rate from a group of people at the fixed time and fixed location and draws on the same wall it shows how people differently react to the same situation.

I found this project particularly interesting, because it creates an image using humans body. It shows how person felt at that moment. It is like recording an event using your heart. Same as the Impulse project it lets people to interact with it, which makes it even more interesting.
